Glenn Whitford

Glenn Nevin Whitford of Martintown forced people to reevaluate the traditional relationship between the disabled and athletics. Despite his affliction with Cerebral Palsy, Glen became active in sports at a young age, playing basketball for the Cornwall Wheelers.

However, track and field would soon become his signature sport as he went on to set provincial, national, and world records. At the 1993 Brampton Provincial Games for the Disabled, Glen would break the world shot put record with a throw of 5.6 meters. At the very same games, he would also break the Canadian record for the club throw with a throw of 26.49.

Glen’s remarkable achievements resulted in his selection for the 1985 national team which competed in international competitions.

Glenn Whitford passed away on June 12th, 2015.
